When It Falls Away

by Senecia Wilson
Poetry
Nighttime comes and everything changes
The love we had for one another is gone
I would cry if I were young enough
To remember what it is like to dream of love
Remember then when we were full of ourselves
No one could convince us that we were destructible
We could never allow ourselves to be
Vulnerable to the elements
Our society does not nurture love or lovers
We are left to descend into the natural breakdown
That is how it is they say
That is life
You live, you die
You weep alone
What a nightmare it is when we learn
That love is not as regarded as it should be
Precious gift from God
Is just a thing to the human species
